Comments:
Bob appeared to enjoy himself during the music therapy session and participated in most activities. He interacted appropriately with the therapist and shared the instruments but required reminders to wait his turn during turn taking activities. Bob has demonstrated great creativity and imagination, often making up his own songs. He gave little to no eye contact during the session without prompting and this will continue to be addressed in future sessions.

Bob excelled in communication skills, eye contact aside. He was able to make his wants and needs known and used appropriate grammar and language within the session. He was difficult to understand or follow at times when over excited or creating an imaginative song or story. He understood the therapist and followed instructions when given. Bob learned a song Getting to Know Someone, which required him to ask and answer questions appropriately. He did this well but will be asked in future sessions to create his own questions (at this time he only repeats questions used during previous weeks).

Bob’s fine and gross motor movement appeared appropriate for his age, however he did have some balance issues while sitting and bouncing on the yoga ball. He enjoyed the use of the ball and it will continue to be used to strengthen his inner core and centre of balance. Bob used both hands while playing instruments but favored his right hand. He used his left hand on the piano effectively when prompted. He also preferred to play the piano with only his pointer finger while playing songs, but used all fingers on both hands while improvising.

Bob displayed several emotions during the initial music therapy sessions – mostly joy and excitement, but some sadness associated with the goodbye song and fear and withdrawal when presented with puppets. During the song, The Expression on My Face, Bob was asked to make a happy, sad, tired, scared, and mad face. Although he appeared to understand these emotions he did not demonstrate the appropriate facial expressions.

Bob proved himself to be very intelligent within the music therapy sessions with an incredible memory. He adapted quickly to the session schedule board and appeared to know what was required of him. Attention to task was noted by the therapist to be one of Bob’s biggest goal areas as he does not sit through the duration of most activities.

Comments:
Bob loves music, and has shown a strong interest in the piano. He has demonstrated the differences on the drum and xylophone of slow, fast, quiet, and loud. Bob became familiar with many of the songs used during the session but often required prompting to sing along. He tended to speak the words to a song more often than sing them and is very quiet.

Comments:
Bob appeared to be very aware of himself and the therapist during the initial music therapy sessions. He was confident in his abilities except when singing – he tended to be very quiet and used more of a spoken song than singing. Bob was able to express his feelings about the goodbye song and having to leave, but did not express verbally his anxieties about the puppets. The therapist feels Bob’s comfort level with singing will improve and he will continue to be prompted to participate in singing activities.
